Responsibilities & Qualifications

R&D wants to evaluate innovative ways and rethink the traditional strategy of molten treatment methods. The role is cross-regional, will cover multiple aspects and departments. The incumbent’s main tasks will be twofold: firstly, he/she needs to review existing methods and develop Novelis-born innovative ideas and secondly, needs to lead and mature projects up to a lab-scale demonstrator

Your responsibilities

  • Design concepts for equipment to implement technologies for molten metal processing at lab scale.
  • Lead projects for prototype design including financial forecasting, milestone definition and supplier selection.
  • Collect, document and benchmark existing melt purification ideas and knowledge, including intellectual property.
  • Propose new ideas and their feasibility for lab-scale demonstration and create a multi-year roadmap
  • Identify main global players (Subject Matter Experts) in melt treatment and their potential roles to advance technology for Novelis.
  • Act as a Subject matter expert (SME) for molten metal processing in R&D and prepare hand-over to existing scale-up departments

How to convince us

  • Bachelor or Master in mechanical engineering, materials science or metallurgy with ideally 3-5 years professional experience as process engineer for molten metal processing.
  • Experience in engineering and expertise in aluminum and rolled products for the automotive market is an advantage.
  • Project Management skills with ability to communicate and coordinate multicultural teams.
  • Fast learner with an innovative spirit.
  • Fluent English and French; German is an advantage.

Ce poste à vocation interrégionale couvrira de multiples aspects et services. Les principales missions du titulaire seront doubles : d'une part, il devra passer en revue les méthodes existantes et développer des idées innovantes issues de Novelis ; d'autre part, il devra diriger et mener à bien des projets jusqu'à la phase de démonstration à l'échelle du laboratoire.

Vos responsabilités

  • Concevoir des équipements permettant de mettre en œuvre des technologies de traitement de métal liquide à l'échelle du laboratoire.
  • Diriger des projets de conception de prototypes, y compris les prévisions financières, la définition des étapes clés et la sélection des fournisseurs.
  • Recueillir, documenter et comparer les idées et les connaissances existantes en matière de purification de métal liquide, y compris la propriété intellectuelle.
  • Proposer de nouvelles idées et évaluer leur faisabilité pour une démonstration à l'échelle du laboratoire, et établir une feuille de route pluriannuelle.
  • Identifier les principaux acteurs mondiaux (experts en la matière) dans le domaine du traitement de métal liquide et déterminer leur rôle potentiel dans l'avancement des technologies pour Novelis.
  • Agir en tant qu'expert en la matière (SME) pour le traitement de métal liquide au sein de la R&D et préparer le transfert vers les départements chargés de la mise à l'échelle.

Comment nous convaincre

  • Bachelor ou Master en génie mécanique, science des matériaux ou métallurgie, avec idéalement 3 à 5 ans d'expérience professionnelle en tant qu'ingénieur de procédés dans le domaine du traitement de métal liquide.
  • Une expérience en ingénierie et une expertise dans le domaine de l'aluminium et des produits laminés destinés au marché automobile constituent un atout.
  • Compétences en gestion de projet, avec une capacité à communiquer et à coordonner des équipes multiculturelles.
  • Capacité d'apprentissage rapide et esprit d'innovation.
  • Maîtrise de l'anglais et du français ; la maîtrise de l'allemand est un atout.

Location Profile

Novelis’ Sierre is located in the Valais Switzerland employing around 550 people. It mainly focuses on production of aluminium sheet for the automotive market covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The plant also hosts a world-leading Research & Innovation Center specialized in the development of new automotive sheet alloys surface treatment and joining technologies. In Feburary 2022 together with research institutions and a local energy provider Novelis founded the Net Zero Lab Valais to develop carbon-neutral solutions for aluminium manufacturing. The lab focuses on identifying and implementing innovative solutions to neutralize the carbon footprint of Novelis’ manufacturing operations and neighboring communities starting in Sierre.

The Sierre plant supports its community through direct sponsorship of many annual events promoting education sports and culture.
