The Molecular Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing DNA extraction and RT-PCR on patient specimens.
Responsibilities:
Perform DNA extraction on various specimen types.
Load and run PCR equipment.
Prepare master mix for numerous different analytes.
Accurately and efficiently pipette small volumes of reagents.
Perform daily and monthly QA/QC
Accurately and confidently analyze qPCR results.
Generate and release all final reports.
Perform PCR housekeeping procedures as specified in the SOP’s.
Perform maintenance and basic troubleshooting on all equipment.
Prepare aliquots for shipment as needed.
Accession and gross specimens.
Store and catalog all specimens for designated amount of time.
Keep supplies fully stocked in molecular lab area.
Dispose of laboratory waste and change solutions appropriately.
Train and become proficient in the FISH assay.
Perform other laboratory and office duties as assigned by manager.
Assists the Director in meeting department regulatory agency requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.).
Maintains accurate logs and records.
Organizes and labels specimens/paperwork and keeps records of tests.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. MT/MLS(ASCP) or MB(ASCP) are strongly preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience performing PCR.

Travel:
In certain regions, this position may require travel to other laboratories.
Physical Requirements for the Job:
Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.
Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work that changes in distance from eyes.
Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Pay Range: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
Actual compensation offered to candidates is based on work experience, education, skill level, and geographic location. Compensation may vary depending on the state or region in which the position is located, in accordance with applicable laws.
