AUC invites applicants passionate about excellence in medical education to teach and integrate Molecular & Cellular Biology in a student‑centered MD program

Education is the primary focus of the faculty. The academic year is divided into three semesters with a new class of students admitted each semester. Lectures and other educational responsibilities continue throughout the year. Effective teachers are sought, particularly individuals who are interested in improving medical education and who work well on a team. Research opportunities exist, primarily in the area of medical education.

The successful candidate will provide strong, innovative teaching in Molecular & Cellular Biology (MCB) with ability to blend MCB with other systems in medicine. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working closely with medical students to help them acquire the required medical knowledge and to develop clinical competency.

Works with the Module Course Co-Directors of various semester to

  1. Develop the syllabus/course integrated content in MCB
  2. Ensure that the course presents current concepts relevant to clinical scenarios.
  3. Develop appropriate integrated clinically relevant questions for examinations
  4. Develop new integrative exercises across all disciplines
  5. Assist in maintaining accurate and current student records
  6. Complete other duties related to the curriculum as assigned.
  7. Complies with all policies and standards

Additional responsibilities:

  1. Attends a minimum of one conference each year for the purpose of curriculum enhancement and/or presentation of research.
  2. Maintains office -hours and is readily available to students for assistance.
  3. Maintains robust advisor/advisee interactions and advising.
  4. Serves on academic committees.
  5. Contributes to community outreach and/or student-centered research projects

Qualifications

  • PhD, MBBS, MD or equivalent required
  • Ability to blend MCB with other systems in medicine
  • 3-4 years-experience teaching in a medical school environment required
  • Familiarity with USMLE type of testing strongly preferred
  • Documented record of teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to relate concepts to clinical scenarios
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, with strong interest in working with medical students required
  • Flexibility and ability to work well on a team
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, materials and equipment used in postsecondary teaching/medical education preferred
  • Educational technology skills, including use of e-learning management systems, audience response systems, online examinations, videoconferencing, desirable
