3rd Shift Production Supervisor – Melt Department
The Production Supervisor – Melt Department is responsible for leading daily melt operations while ensuring safe, efficient, and quality-driven production. This position oversees furnace operations, molten metal quality, team performance, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with safety, production, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee daily melt operations, ensuring safe and efficient production processes.
Manage furnace operations, ladle activities, and repair coordination to support production requirements.
Monitor iron production, chemistry, temperature, and alloy specifications to ensure quality standards are achieved.
Maintain quality control of molten iron in accordance with established technical specifications and process requirements.
Ensure compliance with all company health, safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Conduct risk assessments and support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures.
Implement and maintain job standards, standardized work, and process expectations for team members.
Supervise, coach, and motivate melt department operators to achieve production and quality goals.
Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and support corrective actions when expectations are not met.
Identify staffing requirements and assist with workforce allocation and resource planning.
Coordinate employee training, including safety practices, process procedures, and on-the-job skill development.
Track cycle times, production metrics, and operational performance to drive improvements.
Prepare daily production reports and communicate results, issues, and improvement opportunities to management.
Conduct employee performance reviews, counseling, disciplinary actions, grievance handling, and attendance reporting as required.
Complete shift documentation, production paperwork, and timekeeping responsibilities.
Manage department activities within budgetary guidelines and support cost-control initiatives.
Promote continuous improvement by maintaining and improving manufacturing best practices.
Coordinate production start-ups, shutdowns, and process changeovers.
Maintain effective working relationships with union representatives while adhering to collective bargaining agreements.
Ensure housekeeping, hygiene, and workplace safety standards are consistently maintained.
Perform additional duties and improvement projects as assigned by department leadership.
Required Qualifications
Previous manufacturing supervisory experience required.
Foundry, melt, casting, or heavy industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of melting processes, molten metal handling, and quality requirements.
Ability to understand iron chemistry, temperature control, and alloy systems.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to train, coach, and develop production teams.
Experience with safety programs, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures.
Ability to analyze production data and identify process improvements.
