Summary
The Mold Setter is responsible for setting up, changing, and maintaining molds on injection molding machines (or die-cast machines, depending on the process) to support production schedules in an automotive manufacturing environment. This role ensures molds are installed properly, machines are calibrated, and production runs meet quality and efficiency standards.

Job Duties
• Install, remove, and secure molds in injection molding or die-casting machines according to production requirements.
• Perform mold changes in a timely, safe, and efficient manner to minimize downtime.
• Set machine parameters, conduct test runs, and make adjustments to optimize part quality and cycle times.
• Inspect and clean molds before and after installation to ensure operational readiness.
• Coordinate with the maintenance team for mold and equipment repairs or preventive maintenance.
• Monitor production runs to ensure quality standards and troubleshoot molding issues such as flashing, short shots, or warping.
• Document mold changes, setups, and process parameters accurately in maintenance or production logs.
• Assist in training operators and junior mold setters in safe and proper mold handling techniques.
• Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and proper use of lifting equipment.
• Maintain organized and clean work areas, including mold storage and staging zones.
Requirements
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of experience as a mold setter in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Must be proficient in mathematics, read and understand instructions.
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to achieve lift truck and crane certification within 30 days in position.
• Overhead crane experience preferred.
• Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics with past maintenance and mechanical experience preferred.
• Capable of working in conditions that are oily, greasy, in close distance of heated molds, and in cramped areas under molds.
• Preference given to applicable mechanical, impact wrench and hand tool experience.
• Ability to follow work instructions.
• Knowledge of simple electrical troubleshooting an asset.
