Job Title: Modified Girls Track & Field Head Coach
Position Overview:
Cooperstown Central School is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Modified Girls Track & Field Head Coach to lead the middle school-level program. The ideal candidate will focus on introducing student-athletes to track and field fundamentals, fostering athletic development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a positive, supportive environment. The coach will oversee training and competition for all track and field events suited to the modified level.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct age-appropriate practices covering sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and relays
- Teach basic techniques, rules, and strategies for a variety of track and field events
- Emphasize skill development, participation, and enjoyment of the sport
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and travel
- Promote good sportsmanship, academic responsibility, and team spirit
- Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and school staff
- Coordinate with varsity coaches to ensure program alignment
- Maintain compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district policies
- Manage equipment and assist with meet preparation and logistics
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- DASA Training
- Concussion Management Certification
- SAVE Training
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
- Preferred:
- Experience coaching or participating in track and field
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to engage middle school students and foster a love for athletics
- Commitment to building foundational athletic skills and positive team culture
