Based at Emerson’s Innovation Center in Austin, Texas, you will help customers modernize and optimize their automation infrastructure by combining control systems expertise, project planning, and consultative solution development.

In this role, you will partner with customers, sales teams, and project execution teams to identify modernization opportunities, develop technical strategies, and deliver solutions that support operational excellence and long-term business success. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing business while collaborating with global teams and industry-leading technologies.

This role can also be located at our offices in: St. Louis, MO; Houston, TX; Baton Rouge, LA; or Blue Bell, PA.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Partner with customers to evaluate, plan, and initiate their control systems modernization journey.
  • Conduct site assessments and support front-end project planning activities, including FEL, FEED, and budgetary cost estimating.
  • Develop modernization strategies that align with customer objectives while optimizing total installed and commissioned costs.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to Emerson sales teams in competitive displacement and modernization opportunities.
  • Present automation modernization solutions, migration strategies, and execution approaches to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify, assess, and quantify operational and business benefits that can be achieved through modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Emerson and Impact Partner project execution teams to develop competitive and technically sound solutions.
  • Support the development of modernization standards, tools, methodologies, and emerging solutions.
  • Work closely with product marketing and technology teams to help define future requirements and technology direction.
  • Contribute technical expertise that strengthens Emerson’s reputation as a trusted automation partner.

You navigate complex situations by balancing technical requirements, commercial considerations, and stakeholder priorities. You consistently deliver results through collaboration, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Significant experience supporting or leading control systems modernization, migration, or automation improvement projects.
  • Knowledge of capital project planning processes, including FEL, FEED, or similar project development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS), industrial automation architectures, and modernization strategies.
  • Ability to develop technical recommendations, cost estimates, and implementation approaches for automation projects.
  • Strong presentation, consulting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 30% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, plus 5-8+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV™ distributed control systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations, project economics, and business drivers.
  • Experience developing business cases and value justifications for capital or modernization projects.
  • Experience presenting recommendations and technical solutions to senior leadership and executive audiences.
  • Knowledge of control system cutover, commissioning, startup, and migration methodologies, including hot and cold cutover strategies.
  • Experience managing or coordinating automation and modernization projects.
  • Familiarity with Schneider Electric, Siemens, Honeywell, Foxboro, Triconex, Modicon, PCS 7, APACS, and other legacy DCS, SIS, or PLC-based control systems.
  • Experience supporting brownfield modernization and competitive migration projects within process industries.
