He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Join our Catchment Modelling team as a Modelling Specialist and apply your hydraulic and hydrological modelling expertise to support stormwater network planning, flood risk assessment, and infrastructure design across Tāmaki Makaurau. With two positions available, this is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team with an established core modelling function that underpins critical decision-making across the Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department.

You’ll help develop, manage, and quality‑assure network and flood hazard models so decision‑makers can rely on accurate, fit‑for‑purpose insights. Working within the Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department, you’ll collaborate across a multidisciplinary network planning environment, contribute to on-going improvement of modelling methodologies and data practices.

Day‑to‑day you could expect to work on:

• Developing, reviewing, and quality‑assuring hydraulic and hydrological models for stormwater networks and flood hazard assessments
• Providing technical modelling input across network planning and related stormwater projects
• Maintaining high standards of data quality and model management, including the application of robust QA/QC procedures
• Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of tools, systems, and processes for collecting asset and topographical data, and for generating and publishing flood and network capacity information
• Supporting business intelligence tools and GIS data platforms so information is well-organized, accessible, and fit for purpose

Specifically, we are looking for:

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering or related discipline
• 3–7 years of experience in hydraulic or hydrological modelling, ideally in stormwater or flood risk contexts
• Skill in interpreting modelling results to guide planning, policy, and design decisions
• Proficiency with ICM/TUFLOW/HEC‑RAS and GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS Pro)
• Strong data management and quality assurance discipline across models and datasets
• Confident communication and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities
