About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Model Validator to join a professional Model Risk Management team in Utrecht.

As a Model Validator, you will critically assess risk models that support important strategic and risk management decisions. You will combine strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to challenge assumptions, engage with senior stakeholders, and translate complex analyses into clear and actionable conclusions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with experience in model development, model validation, risk modelling, or a related quantitative discipline who wants to work in a challenging banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Critically assess model code, analyses, documentation, and supporting information.
  • Evaluate the accuracy, methodology, assumptions, and overall soundness of risk models.
  • Perform statistical analyses and interpret complex analytical results.
  • Translate statistical findings into clear, well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Lead discussions with internal stakeholders regarding validation findings.
  • Challenge model developers and stakeholders constructively when required.
  • Prepare high-quality and timely model validation reports.
  • Ensure validation work meets applicable regulatory and internal standards.
  • Advise senior management and model developers on model improvements.
  • Provide recommendations regarding appropriate model use and limitations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of model validation processes and practices.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has:

  • HBO-level education in a quantitative, financial, mathematical, statistical, econometric, or related field.
  • Professional experience in model development, model validation, risk modelling, or a closely related quantitative discipline
  • Strong programming skills.
  • Hands-on experience working with and analysing large and complex datasets.
  • Strong statistical and analytical capabilities.
  • Good understanding of banking regulations and regulatory expectations concerning model risk.
  • Experience interpreting and challenging model assumptions and methodologies.
  • Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and model developers.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team objectives.

Working Environment

You will work within a Model Risk Management team where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous professional development are important.

The position operates under a hybrid working model, combining remote work with collaboration from the Utrecht office.

  • The position falls under scale 9 of the applicable collective labour agreement (CAO)
