Job Category: Skilled Labor - TradesThe Mobile Service Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on medium-duty through Class 7 and 8 heavy-duty trucks at customer locations or in the field. This position operates with minimal supervision and is considered a highly skilled technician role. The Mobile Service Technician is expected to independently diagnose issues, determine appropriate repair solutions, and provide high-quality service in a field environment while supporting customer uptime and satisfaction.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnostics and Repair
- - Perform mechanical repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment in the field
- - Inspect, test, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues independently
- - Determine whether repairs can be completed in the field or require shop service
- - Utilize OEM diagnostic software, tools, and mobile service equipment
- - Test vehicles and components before and after repairs to verify proper operation
- Field Service Execution
- - Operate and maintain mobile service truck/van at customer locations
- - Perform routine maintenance, safety inspections, and annual inspections in the field
- - Maintain proper inventory of parts, fluids, and supplies on the mobile unit
- - Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining quality standards
- - Adapt to varying job sit conditions and customer environments
- Customer Service and Communication
- - Communicate repair status, concerns, and updates to Shop Foreman or Service Manager
- - Communicate directly with customers regarding repairs, timelines, and findings
- - Provide professional service and represent the Company in the field
- - Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately and timely
- - Coordinate with Service Manager or Shop Foreman on complex repairs or support needs
- - Maintain strong customer relationships through reliable service
- Safety and Compliance
- - Follow all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements
- - Maintain a safe, clean, and organized mobile work environment
- - Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment
- - Maintain awareness of environmental and safety hazards
- - Participate in required training and certification programs
- - Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Company and regulatory standards
QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below are representative of those required. This position operates primarily in a mobile, field-based environment with constant travel and frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, tools, fumes, and varying weather conditions. Lifting up to 50-100 pounds may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical school or diesel technology training required or equivalent experience (minimum of 2 years heavy-duty truck repair experience)
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills required, including diagnostic software, mobile technology, and service systems
Skills Required
- Strong mechanical aptitude with advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of heavy-duty truck systems including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and emissions systems
- Ability to perform repairs independently in a field environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to read and interpret repair orders, schematics, and technical manuals
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including direct customer interaction
- Ability to diagnose issues and determine if repairs can be completed in the field or require shop service
- Strong problem-solving skills in non-controlled environments
- Ability to use OEM diagnostic tools, software, and mobile service equipment
- Ability to manage time, schedule, and territory effectively
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
- Ability to maintain professionalism while working independently at customer locations
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver's license with insurability under Company standards
- Valid Class B CDL highly desired, or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe, as approved by management
- OEM certifications (e.g., Cummins, Paccar) required or ability to obtain

- Daily travel within assigned territory is required
