Job Description


About the Role


A Mobile Plant Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining loaders, haul trucks, dozers, graders, excavators and other mobile equipment and machinery, while carrying out operations in line with safety regulations.


The role is also involved in overall quarry operations, including overburden removal, loading, hauling and transportation of raw materials from the quarry to the crushing plant, stockpiles and overburden tipping areas.


The Mobile Plant Operator is also responsible for ensuring that quarry operations are carried out safely, efficiently and cost-effectively.
Role Responsibilities


  • Understand and comply with HSE policies, recognising that HSE is the first priority of the business. Actively support key safety initiatives at the plant and assist the department as needed to improve HSE performance and results.


  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.


  • Follow all safety procedures, check for safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate identified hazards.


  • Operate excavators, loaders, graders, haul trucks, dozers, etc. effectively and safely, utilising machine-specific controls and attachments to complete all necessary tasks. This includes operating on adverse terrain and/or near other equipment and power lines.


  • Operate in crowded, fast-paced working environments, exercising extreme caution and maintaining awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety.


  • Perform mechanical inspections and servicing, including checking controls and operations, completing logbooks, performing maintenance and adjustments, ensuring good housekeeping and carrying out machine lubrication.


  • Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication, including hand signals, from operators and ground personnel, and act accordingly.


  • Operate equipment effectively by recognising unusual machine movements and sounds.


  • Ensure that all orders and instructions received verbally or in writing are fully understood and adhered to, and communicate daily work requirements with the onsite supervisor.


  • Be safety-conscious in all work activities and use the required personal protective equipment.


  • Be responsible for maintaining safe working conditions while operating mobile equipment.


  • Recognise existing and potential hazards and identify these through conducting field-level pre-job hazard analyses, checking machines for hazards and assessing tasks before commencement.


  • Be familiar with all relevant work and safety procedures issued by the Company and Operator.


  • Maintain up-to-date logs of completed work.


  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements


Critical Knowledge


  • Good communication skills.


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


  • Knowledge of safety regulations.


  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.


  • Knowledge of machine main systems.


Critical Experience


  • Minimum of 4–5 years’ post-qualification experience.


Educational Qualification and Other Requirements


  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or a recognised Trade Test certification/licence, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the cement industry.
