of Job Duties:

Performs high quality screening and diagnostic breast imaging exams, including mammography and Breast ultrasounds. Explains procedures to patients, positions patients and equipment, reviews previous records to determine correct studies are being performed, maintains, and operates specialized radiologic equipment. The technologist role requires familiarity with operation of equipment for breast procedures including ultrasound biopsy, stereotactic biopsy, MRI guided biopsy and needle localizations although these procedures are not performed on the mammovans.

The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI) mobile mammography program has been in place for more than 10 years. WPRCI is committed to decreasing breast cancer-related illness, disability and death in Arkansas through screening and early detection. The focus of the program is on improving cancer screenings and education around the state with particular attention to our rural underserved counties. This position requires travel with multiple overnight stays each month. Sometimes trip schedules include departures/arrivals after hours or on weekends, e.g., departure on a Sunday afternoon or return on a Friday evening. The position also requires obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL) in order to drive the van as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Graduate from an approved Radiology program or candidate for graduation within 6 months.

  • Licensed by the State of Arkansas in Radiology; Registered or eligible to become registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Mammography.

  • Must obtain an AR commercial driver’s license within one (1) year of hire.

  • Minimum Knowledge - Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

  • Minimum Knowledge - Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)

  • Minimum Knowledge - Ultrasound biopsy

  • Minimum Knowledge - Breast imaging

  • Minimum Skill - Verbal and written communication

  • Minimum Skill - Organization and prioritization

  • Minimum Ability - Maintain accurate records

  • Minimum Ability- Perform high quality examinations


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Operates specialized radiologic equipment to perform high quality breast imaging exams including mammography and breast ultrasounds.

  • Maintains adequate level of supplies and keeps workspace clean.

  • Communicates mammography exam procedures to patients and enlists patient cooperation in positioning for radiological examination.

  • Provides patient education regarding mammography and breast health.

  • Assists with records management and scheduling appointments. Obtains patient history and enters into Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

  • Schedules exams and reviews pervious records to determine correct studies are performed. Ensures exams are completed and images are in Picture Archiving and Communication (PACS) systems.

  • Enrolls patients in BreastCare Program as appropriate.

  • Drives mobile mammography van to events; sets up equipment and van.

  • Maintains knowledge of breast procedures including ultrasound biopsy, stereotactic biopsy, MRI guided biopsy, and needle localizations through continuing education and professional development.

  • Completes other duties as requested.

  • Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
