About the role

We are looking for a Heavy Diesel Mechanic to perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance across our fleet of heavy mobile equipment at our Dampier Salt Operations in Dampier

This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated trades person who is looking for a long-term career in mining. This role is for applicants residing in or willing to permanently relocate to Karratha, Western Australia.

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor and working in an exciting environment within the Mobile Maintenance Team, you will be required to:

  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness and comply with all Rio Tinto Company Policies and procedures.

  • Maintain the harvester and tractor fleet and determine repair actions when required,

  • Maintain the CAT dozer, grader & loader fleet and determine repair actions when required.

  • Maintain the Scania haul truck/trailer fleet.

  • Maintain the auxiliary equipment fleet of graders, excavators, water trucks and other MEM.

  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects – increasing safety whilst reducing risk & cost.

  • Utilise SAP to ensure that maintenance tasks are recorded, assigned correctly and completed to the relevant standard / specification.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • A Heavy-Duty Fitter or Plant Mechanic trade qualification

  • Experienced maintaining and servicing Heavy Mobile Equipment-current experience with European road trucks would be highly advantageous

  • An Australian manual drivers’ licence

  • Eligible to work in Australia without requiring visa sponsorship

Where you’ll be working

Dampier Salt Limited (DSL), located in Western Australia and comprising two solar operations – Dampier and Port Hedland – is one of the world’s largest exporters of seaborne salt, with capacity to produce approximately 7.5 million tonnes every year.

This position is for a residential role working at the Dampier site located between the towns of Karratha and Dampier.
