Mobile Equipment Mechanic

Company: Specialty Products and Insulation

Position Summary

Specialty Products and Insulation (SPI) is seeking a knowledgeable, mechanically inclined, and customer-focused Equipment Service Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support a diverse range of equipment used in the application of the products we provide. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems across multiple equipment platforms. The technician will travel to customer job sites and company warehouses to diagnose equipment issues, perform repairs, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.

This role includes servicing and repairing insulation machines, insulation-removal vacuums, roofing application equipment, gutter-forming machines, waterproofing systems, protective coating equipment, and spray foam equipment. Previous experience with all equipment types is not required—SPI will provide training for qualified candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a demonstrated ability to learn complex systems.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, enjoys solving mechanical problems, works well independently, and delivers outstanding customer service across diverse equipment platforms. The candidate must be willing and able to travel on short notice and overnight, sometimes for up to a week. The candidate should be comfortable flying and taking long drives to reach destinations, some of which can be remote.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain insulation equipment, including spray foam and insulation-blowing equipment.
• Service and repair insulation removal vacuums with small gas engines
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain roofing equipment such as coating machines and airless sprayers.
• Service gutter-forming machines at customer job sites and company facilities, including preventive maintenance, adjustments, and repairs. Help maintain local branch production equipment
• Repair and maintain waterproofing system equipment, including pumps, proportioners, and spray equipment.
• Service protective coating equipment includes spray systems, mixing equipment, hose assemblies, and related components.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain spray foam equipment, including proportioners, transfer pumps, heated hoses, spray guns, and related components.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all supported equipment types to ensure reliable operation and extend equipment life. This includes diesel and gas engines used on generators and other equipment.
• Travel to customer locations and Service Partners warehouses to perform equipment inspections, maintenance, and emergency repairs.
• Assist customers with equipment operation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and best practices.
• Complete service reports, repair documentation, and parts usage records accurately and promptly.
• Maintain inventory of commonly used replacement parts and service tools.
• Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment condition, repair recommendations, and preventative maintenance.
• Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines while working in warehouse and field environments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked service vehicle.
• Support warehouse personnel with equipment inspections and repair needs as required.
• Participate in ongoing training to remain current on new equipment systems, materials and industry best practices.
• Continuous improvement mindset to recommend changes, enhancements and improvements to company designed and built equipment

Qualifications

• Prior Mechanical experience on diesel and gas engines.
• Prior experience working on and troubleshooting generator power systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, parts breakdowns, and technical manuals.
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Strong customer service and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in warehouse and outdoor job site environments.
• Willingness to travel on short notice for up to a week at a time

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a construction equipment service mechanic, field mechanic or shop mechanic.
• Experience with generators, air compressors, and trailer/truck-mounted spray foam equipment.
• Experience with proportioning systems (Graco, PMC and similar).
• OSHA safety training or similar industry certifications.
• Experience with equipment diagnostics and technical troubleshooting.
• Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus

Compensation Range

$20.00 - $40.00

To comply with Pay Transparency laws, employers must disclose an annual salary range. Actual offers depend on factors such as location, experience, skills, and market data. This position may also offer variable compensation.
