Job Description

Fort HealthCare is a patient-centered hospital and healthcare system serving individuals, businesses and families in Jefferson, Dane, and Walworth Counties and we are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Laboratory team.

Full Time
1000-2030
70 hours per bi-weekly pay period

The Technical Specialist provides technical oversight of their section(s) and acts as a staff resource for instrumentation and testing as well as staff training and competency requirements. The Technical Specialist develops and evaluates a variety of tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Responsibilities of these positions include:

  • Ensures proper function of assigned analyzers/department area by performing needed validation and verification studies; monitoring calibrations as needed; and serving as staff resource for troubleshooting and resolution of instrumentation and testing issues.
  • Ensures successful quality control program by recognizing, resolving, and documenting QC trends and failures; performing monthly review of QC and comparing to peer data as appropriate; and submitting monthly QC data and documentation to director or designee for review. Compiles and submits any quality management reports required for their section.
  • Oversees analyzer maintenance program.
  • Takes leadership in the initial and ongoing training of staff and assists in the evaluation of annual and as needed individual competencies.
  • Updates and reviews policies and procedures in area of responsibility.
  • Takes responsibility for supply management of reagents and consumables.
  • Performs and accurately documents all routine and special analysis of chemical, microscopic, hematologic, serologic, bacteriologic, and immunohematology testing.
  • Assures accurate test results by assessing specimen quality, clinical diagnosis, instrument operation, and quality control procedures.
  • Monitors turnaround time of all ordered tests via turnaround time monitor, pending lists, and other available tools.
  • Identifies critical test results and notifies appropriate clinical staff of results and documents the call.
  • Collects specimens from patients of all ages using appropriate collection devices.

Requirements of these positions include:

  • Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Must productively interact with patients, lab staff, physicians, nursing staff, and related personnel to perform laboratory work and report on results
  • ASCP or equivalent MLT/MLS certification

Fort HealthCare provides care to the residents in and around Jefferson County. The Fort Memorial Hospital is a modern, fully accredited, acute care facility with 49 beds. In addition to inpatient services, Fort HealthCare offers ambulatory surgery, the Center for Joint Replacement, an exceptional hand care program and many specialty clinics, a birthing center, cardiac rehabilitation, emergency services including the Urgent Care Program for after-hours treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, occupational medicine and more.
