Job Description

The M4 Helper assists in packaging a variety of sealants and caulks in cartridges, 1-gallon cans, 5-gallon pails, or 55-gallon drums. At times the M4 Helper must be able to operate the Prosys and Serpa independently, while the unit operator is mixing a batch or blending Indopol. The M4 Helper position assists in cleanout of the mixer and hold tank, as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the Prosys cartridge filler and Serpa Packer to meet 5S requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate Prosys cartridge filler and Serpa Case Packer to fill and package 11-ounce tubes
  • Keep cartridge hopper and box loader full
  • Putting finished product into 1-gallong cans, 5-gallon pails or 55-gallon drums, as required for specific products.
  • Place boxed product on skids and band skids for shipping
  • Date code cans and boxes
  • Making boxes for 1-gallon cans
  • Weighing finished product packages
  • Assisting in cleaning out the mixer and hold tank between products
  • Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and meet 5S requirements in the work area
  • Completing necessary paperwork
  • Properly labeling finished product using process specification’s packaging and labeling
  • Function as a trained and certified Mixer 4 (Shar) back-up as needed
  • Follow processing specifications, certification sheets (when mixing), lockout/tagout and confined space procedures

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma
    • Equivalent: GED
  • Experience: 2 years warehousing/manufacturing experience

Equipment & Data Used:

  • Equipment run on the job: Prosys cartridge filler, Serpa case packer, fork truck, digital scale, skid bander, gas detection equipment, and mixer 4 (in back-up capacity)
  • Tools required on the job: Hammer, screw drivers, wrenches, pneumatic wrench, manual lid crimper, pneumatic staple gun, and safety knives
  • Data used on the job: Standard work documents, SDS’s (Safety Data Sheets), certification sheets with mixing information

Work Environment/Time Worked:

  • Work Environment:
    • Plant ambient temperature in the summer matches outside temperature
    • Plant is heated in the winter
    • Exposure to solvent fumes when cleaning (PPE Provided)
    • Must work in confined spaces when necessary
    • Pinch points on moving mechanical equipment
    • Sharp edges on box cutters and razors
    • Heavy equipment includes fork truck
    • Uniforms are issued and laundered by company
    • Can be fast paced
  • Time Worked:
    • Four-Shift operation
      • 1st Shift: 7:00am-3:00pm
      • 2nd Shift: 3:00pm-11:00pm
      • 3rd Shift: 11:00pm-7:00am
      • WE Shift: Sat & Sun 7PM-7AM and 11PM-7AM Mon/Fri
      • Overtime as business requires
    • While training on or performing an operator/material handler positions you will be required to come in 15 minutes prior to start of shift

Physical Requirements:

  • Climbing – must be able to climb into and out of a fork truck and upstairs to the mezzanine
  • Lifting - lifting raw materials (occasionally up to 62 lbs) and placing cases on skids
  • Stooping – occurs when placing finished product cartons onto pallets
  • Kneeling – occurs during the cleanout process
  • Crouching – when filling 5-gallon pails
  • Reaching – reaching to get empty tubes
  • Standing – must stand for majority of the shift
  • Walking – walking back and forth between the Prosys and Serpa case packer
  • Pushing – pushing full cartons onto skid or 1-gallon cans into boxes
  • Pulling – pulling full cartons of the conveyor
  • Grasping – grasping empty cans, cartridges, and lids for cans or pails
  • Talking & Hearing – must communicate with other members of the plant
  • Sight – must be able to see and recognize hazards, warnings, and safety data sheets
