Job Description

Mission Integration Engineer (Commercial & Civil)

Department: Mission Management

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Redondo Beach

Compensation: $100,000 - $205,000 / year

Description

As a Mission Integration Engineer at Impulse, you will support the technical integration of commercial and civil space customer payloads and mission requirements onto Impulse space vehicles. In this role, you will work closely with customer technical teams and internal engineering disciplines—helping establish and track hardware, software, and operational interfaces from kickoff through delivery. You will assist in technical problem-solving, help maintain baseline interface documentation, and support mission integration readiness across dynamic flight programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining technical baseline documentation, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and compliance matrices for customer missions
  • Support multi-disciplinary coordination across different technical focus areas to resolve integration issues
  • Partner with Responsible Engineers (REs) and Mission Managers to evaluate evolving spacecraft capabilities against customer requirements
  • Help identify technical risks early in the mission lifecycle and formulate engineering trade-offs and mitigations
  • Support mission verification, environmental test reviews, and launch site integration flows
  • Maintain traceability through clear action item tracking, meeting records, and analysis/test/inspection data in shared company repositories
  • Occasionally travel to support hardware integration events, test campaigns, or launch operations (less than 20% travel)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • 0–2+ years of professional or hands-on academic/internship experience in systems engineering, mission integration, or complex technical project execution
  • Foundational understanding of core aerospace subsystem interfaces and familiarity with tracking technical requirements against deliverables
  • Exposure to maintaining technical documentation, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), or verification matrices

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience working directly as a technical point of contact with external partners or customers in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with commercial space markets, launch service providers, civil space mission lifecycles, or institutional agency processes
  • Strong organizational skills with a track record of documenting technical processes, interface definitions, and verification logic

Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
