Position Purpose:

Intern, Mission Critical (Data Center) – Provides hands-on support and gains practical experience in the commissioning process for mission-critical electrical systems. This position offers a motivated and energetic student the opportunity to learn about electrical systems design, construction, and the full commissioning lifecycle across systems of varying size and complexity. The intern will support the team by assisting with project documentation, reviewing project information, and observing daily field activities under the guidance of a Senior Project Manager. The role requires organizational skills, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and adapt, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

List essential job functions that comprise the job; describe in terms of actions (verbs) and desired outcomes in order of most important first:

  • Observe and learn the commissioning of electrical distribution equipment and related controls, primarily in data center environments, including medium voltage systems.
  • Assist with preparing plans and procedures for execution of the commissioning process.
  • Shadow and support the team in conducting commissioning activities from the design phase through the occupation phase, adhering to client requirements and industry best practices.
  • Learn to perform basic functional testing of equipment and measure results using test instrumentation under supervision.
  • Support the team in fully documenting field procedures, results, issues, and observations using company-provided templates or online applications.
  • Assist the Project Engineer in commenting on equipment and system performance.
  • Assist with submitting and maintaining daily commissioning reports.
  • Comply with company, client, and project safety requirements.
  • Be willing and able to learn about and perform basic functional tests on building equipment, including, but not limited to:
    • Generator
    • Medium / Low Voltage Transformer (XFMR)
    • Battery Systems
    • Low Voltage Switchgear (SWGR)
    • Low Voltage Main Switchboards (MSB)
    • Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS)
    • Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS)
    • Power Distribution Unit (PDU)
    • Busways
    • Remote Power Panel (RPP)
    • Grounding Systems
    • Lighting Control Systems

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Candidate for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Business Management or other related fields.
  • General understanding of the energy industry preferred but not required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with clients, team members, vendors and management at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated and able to drive projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office or GSuite tools.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of technical project management tools and methodologies (e.g. Trello, SmartSheet, JIRA, Agile, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to receive, incorporate, and grow from constructive criticism.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day.
  • Carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to wear required PPE daily.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $25.00 to $30.00 Per Hour.

Benefits: Interns are considered temporary employees. Medical and basic life insurance coverage is available to temporary employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week immediately following 60 days of service. Employees must elect or waive medical coverage within 45 days of their eligibility date. Veolia observes 11 holidays.
