Job Description

Our New Caledonian subsidiary, Société Le Nickel (SLN), is among the world's leading ferronickel producers. SLN has stood the test of time by continuously innovating and adapting to new knowledge and the evolving needs of the planet.

Today, SLN embraces the challenges of responsible and sustainable mining by launching a new economic model, where dialogue and co-construction with local communities play a central role.

Reporting to the CEO of SLN and as a member of the Executive Committee, you will define and drive the company's mining strategy to ensure a secure, competitive, and sustainable supply to the metallurgical plant as well as to external customers.

You will ensure the overall performance of multi-site mining operations, with a focus on operational excellence, cost control, and environmental and social responsibility.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision and Mining Model Transformation

  • Define and deploy an ambitious mining strategy, aligned with SLN's and the Group's industrial and financial roadmap.
  • Lead the transformation of the operational model towards greater competitiveness, robustness, and sustainability.
  • Balance priorities between short-term performance and long-term resource preservation.
  • Anticipate developments in the nickel market and adapt the industrial setup accordingly.

Operational Performance and Industrial Excellence

  • Oversee all mining centers and associated functions (geology, planning, studies, operational excellence).
  • Ensure the achievement of production targets in terms of volume, quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Deploy structured continuous improvement and productivity optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure the reliability and consistency of short, medium, and long-term mine plans in line with the metallurgical plant's requirements.

Organization, Leadership, and Skills Development

  • Continuously challenge the organization to align structures, processes, and responsibilities with operational and economic objectives.
  • Adapt working methods to strengthen agility, accountability, and collective performance.
  • Unite teams around a clear and demanding vision.
  • Develop the technical and managerial skills of teams, particularly those of mining center managers.
  • Identify and prepare key talents to secure continuity and the maturity growth of the organization.
  • Foster a culture of high standards, safety, ethics, and continuous improvement at all levels.

Safety, Environment, and Social Responsibility

  • Embody an exemplary health and safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with mining, environmental, and social regulations.
  • Oversee rehabilitation plans and ensure responsible resource management.
  • Embed mining operations within a framework of dialogue and co-construction with local communities.

Financial Steering and Capital Investment

  • Develop and manage operational and capital budgets.
  • Ensure cost control and operational competitiveness in a volatile market environment.
  • Oversee major projects related to deposit development and equipment renewal.

Representation and Institutional Relations

  • Represent SLN before administrative, provincial, and customary authorities.
  • Actively contribute to relations with local and institutional stakeholders.

Your Profile:

Education

  • Engineering degree (Mining, Geology, or equivalent Master's level minimum).
  • A background in management or finance is an asset.

Experience

  • 15 to 20 years of minimum experience in the extractive industry.
  • Significant experience in managing complex mining operations, ideally multi-site.
  • Proven experience in managing large, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Solid experience in budget management and the execution of major investment projects.

Key Skills

  • Mastery of mining processes: geology, planning, operations, and rehabilitation.
  • Good understanding of industrial challenges related to supplying a metallurgical plant.
  • Strong economic analysis and industrial asset management capabilities.
  • Assertive leadership, strategic vision, and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Rigor, integrity, resilience, and long-term vision.
