Job Purpose: Statutory Mines Manager oversees all mining activities to ensure strict compliance with statutory regulations, including the Mines Act 1952 and DGMS guidelines. The role involves leading the development and implementation of mine safety standards, promoting a zero-incident culture, and ensuring that operations are conducted safely and efficiently. The Statutory Mines Manager supervises the execution of mine development plans, optimizes resource utilization, and manages operational costs. Additionally, the manager fosters a culture of continuous improvement, ensures environmental stewardship, and integrates new technologies to enhance productivity and safety across all shifts.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety Governance:

Ensure full compliance with the Mines Act 1952, MMR 1961, and DGMS regulations, maintaining a safe working environment.

Lead the development and implementation of mine safety standards, promoting a zero-incident culture.

Regularly review and update safety protocols to align with the latest regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Operational Leadership:

Oversee all mining activities, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.

Supervise the execution of mine development plans, ensuring optimal resource extraction and operational efficiency.

Coordinate with the Assistant Mines Managers to ensure seamless operations across all shifts.

Cost Management and Operational Efficiency:

Monitor and control all operational expenses, ensuring that mining activities remain within budgetary constraints.

Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety, quality, or production efficiency.

Optimize resource utilization to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead a team of Assistant Mines Managers, Foremen, and other key personnel, providing guidance and mentoring.

Conduct performance reviews and provide opportunities for professional development within the mining team.

Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Internal Controls and Transparency:

Implement internal controls to ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and legal requirements.

Promote transparency in mine operations, ensuring that all actions and decisions are documented and auditable.

Conduct regular reviews of internal controls to identify and address any areas of weakness or non-compliance.

Environmental Stewardship:

Ensure that mining operations are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to all environmental regulations.

Oversee the implementation of environmental management plans, including waste management and reclamation efforts.

Promote sustainable mining practices to minimize the environmental footprint.

Technological Integration:

Lead the adoption of new technologies and best practices in mining operations.

Ensure that all mining equipment and processes are up-to-date and compliant with industry standards.

Oversee the integration of automation and digital tools to enhance productivity and safety.

Ethics and Integrity:

Uphold and enforce high ethical standards in all aspects of mine management.

Ensure that all team members understand and adhere to the company’s code of conduct.

Address any ethical breaches promptly and effectively, ensuring that corrective actions are taken.

Education Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering with a 1st Class Manager Competency Certificate issued by DGMS.

Work Experience:

8+ years of experience in mining operations, preferably with exposure to managing statutory compliance and safety standards.

Industry Knowledge:

Extensive knowledge of the Mines Act 1952, MMR 1961, and DGMS regulations, with a focus on maintaining mine safety standards and promoting a zero-incident culture.
