Job Description

MINER OPERATOR

Accountabilities:

Complying with federal and state regulations and company safety standards while efficiently operating a continuous miner. This would include the following duties:

  • Advance the continuous miner from each working place in accordance to the approved cut sequence.
  • Operate machine to cut coal minimizing the cutting of top and floor to prevent dilution of the coal.
  • Check the bits and bit holders on the cutting drums at regular intervals and replace the same as required for the cutting conditions.
  • Check lubrication/service points and fluid levels at regular intervals and maintain as required. Check the scrubber for proper operation and clean as needed. Check the water sprays for proper operation, maintain as needed.
  • Perform gas tests as required by law.
  • Maintain proper face ventilation devices.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years experience operating a continuous miner.
  • Able to operate a continuous miner in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Able to distinguish the top and floor during the cutting operation while using the remote control station.
  • Know the major components of the continuous miner.
  • Know the location and operation of the emergency stop switches, visible disconnect and fire suppression and deluge system.
  • Know the lubrication and service requirements of the continuous miner.
  • Know the safe job procedures for operating the continuous miner.
  • Know the standard operating procedures for the section.
  • Know proper face ventilation and cable handling procedures.
  • Able to mark centerlines and cross-cuts.
  • Able to cut cross-cuts efficiently.
