Prominent Hill is a well-established copper‑gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.
Located 650km north‑west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining and is located on the traditional lands of the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara people. Prominent Hill produces one of the highest grades of copper concentrate in the world.
A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

Prominent Hill is home to a team that's more than 80% South Australian. You can build a strong mining career without leaving SA, with direct flights from Adelaide (1.5hrs) or Port Augusta (45 minutes).
You'll be extracting the copper that goes into electric vehicle batteries, solar panel wiring, and wind turbine components. Every day, you're contributing to Australia's clean energy future.
Mine Planning Engineers play a critical role in transforming strategy into executable plans. Your work directly influences how the mine develops, how efficiently resources are extracted, and how safely our people operate underground. Working within the Technical Services team, you will collaborate closely with operations and technical services and other stakeholders to develop practical mining plans that support the safe and sustainable extraction of ore.
