Make your mark while you grow your career! As the first line of support, Machinists are integral members of Canadian Natural’s Mine Maintenance team. You will directly report to the supervisor and be responsible for completing assignments in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of Mining Equipment, metal parts, tools, models, and equipment that require a high degree of accuracy and precision. Work may involve limited design responsibilities. Although work falls principally in the machinist's trade, the employee is expected to employ some skills of the Millwright trade. Job requirements on occasion, require work beyond normal duty hours resulting from emergency or high priority work

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Horizon Oil Sands Site
  • Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, rotating day/night, 12-hour shifts
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

  • Diagnose and repair machine failures, as well as install replacement parts (which you'll often fabricate yourself)
  • Provide mechanical assistance to Millwrights working in the rebuild shop
  • Identify recurring problems and document them so that an engineered solution can be provided
  • Maintain close contact with the Operations/Maintenance coordinators to insure that the jobs are prioritized correctly
  • Work in the shop and field where every required
  • Participate actively in Continuous Improvement program
  • Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards and report them

What You Bring to the Role:

  • High school or GED completion is required
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a maintenance machine shop, specifically working on mining equipment
  • Ideally a dual ticketed Journeyperson Red Seal Machinist/Millwright or Machinist/Welder Trade Certificate in Alberta or an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate
  • Journeyman Millwrights with line boring experience will also be considered
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and standard practices of the machinist's trade
