About Island Gold District:Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Millwright & Hoist Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of all mine hoisting systems and underground assets. This role provides hands-on leadership to hoist mechanics while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

This is a safety-critical leadership position overseeing equipment essential to the safe transport of personnel and materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure completion of preventative maintenance and inspections on hoist systems
  • Responsible for Maintaining and Repairing: Hoists (drum); Braking systems and safety devices; Hoist ropes, drums, and sheaves; Gearboxes, bearings, and drive systems
  • Review and approve mechanical log books and inspection reports
  • Lead troubleshooting and response to hoist breakdowns or critical issues
  • Plan and execute major maintenance activities (rope changes, rebuilds, shutdowns)
  • Coordinate with electrical, operations, and engineering teams
  • Ensure proper parts, tools, and resources are available


Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all lockout/tagout and safe work procedures
  • Ensure hoist systems meet Ontario mining regulations and company standards
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to hoisting operations
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture


Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, coaching, and mentorship to trades personnel
  • Conduct pre-shift safety meetings and task planning
  • Manage performance, attendance, and training requirements
  • Support workforce development and succession planning
  • Ensure clear communication between shifts

Qualifications

  • Certified Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) (Red Seal preferred)
  • Extensive experience with mine hoisting systems
  • Previous supervisory or lead-hand experience in mining or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and hoist safety standards
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, OEM manuals, and regulations

The schedule for this position is based in a camp operation working on a defined rotation schedule. 7 days on / 7 days off. Pay or shift range: $43.60 CAD to $67.32 CAD
