Your Day-to-Day as a Millwright:
Safety
  • Actively participates in Drax safety culture through safety conversations, observations, training, and following established procedures.
  • Learns from qualified tradespeople and supports safe work practices while building technical knowledge and confidence.
  • Maintains high housekeeping standards in the department with team involvement.
  • Utilizes SDS for chemical safety training for all employees.
  • Comp letes required safety and apprenticeship-related training in a timely manner.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely on company radios in line with Drax’s procedures.
  • Participates in safety discussions and contributes to a positive, safety-focused work environment.
Technical
Routine Daily Maintenance (75%)
  • Assists with routine maintenance activities while learning how to uphold safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Supports qualified millwrights with inspections, repairs, installations, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
  • Shutdown and Strategic Capital Projects (15%)
  • Assists with shutdowns and project work under supervision, with a focus on safe execution, quality workmanship, and learning from experienced team members.
  • Learning, Development, and Team Support (10%)
  • Builds foundational millwright skills through hands-on learning, coaching, and active participation in the apprenticeship program.
What you’ll bring:
To excel in this vital role, you’ll need:
  • Registered First Year Millwright Apprentice.
  • Interest in working in an industrial environment; previous hands-on, mechanical, or trades-related experience is considered an asset.
  • Basic welding, fabrication, or shop experience is a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to learn about pellet manufacturing equipment, heavy industry operations, and maintenance best practices.
  • Comfortable learning to use mobile equipment, tools, and work order systems safely and accurately.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and willing to work as part of a team while taking direction from experienced tradespeople.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and willingness to learn.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in developing as a millwright.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
