Job Description
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Key Millwright Duties
- Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on smelter plant equipment.
- Conduct fault finding, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on production equipment.
- Execute planned maintenance schedules and respond to equipment breakdowns.
- Carry out MV switching and ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures.
- Inspect, test, and commission plant equipment to ensure reliable operation.
- Maintain pumps, conveyors, crushers, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Assist with shutdown planning and execution activities.
- Complete job cards, maintenance reports, and equipment history records.
- Identify equipment defects and initiate corrective actions.
- Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, electrical regulations, and site procedures.
- Support production by minimizing downtime and improving equipment availability.
- Participate in standby and call-out duties as required.
- Work shifts and provide handovers to incoming maintenance teams.
- Mentor and assist operators and artisans with basic maintenance practices where applicable.
Supports the achievement of production performance level
- Obtain daily and weekly work instructions from Plant Supervisor
- Prepare and plan work priority list and resource requirements to complete tasks
- Ensure that all resources requirements are communicated to Plant Supervisor to complete allocated work orders
- Inform the Team Leader when work is being conducted in the area of responsibility
- Co-ordinate maintenance activities with the Team Leader, to ensure that the operation is not affected or alternative plans need to be prepared.
- Show the appropriate Team Leader how certain low-level maintenance and preventative steps can be undertaken by the operational team within process
- Communicate any stumbling blocks to the appropriate Plant Supervisor so that plans can be made.
- Ensure the safe and proper running of all machinery and equipment are conducted
- Ensure that any operational problem that is encountered is reported even if outside immediate area of responsibility
- Available for after-hours standby duty
Administration of necessary systems
- Assist the BA Officer in completing safety, injury, hazard, risk and incident reports for area
- Compile an accurate shift/work order reports
- Ensure that technical data is accurate
- Complete requisitions for stock items required
- Prepare ad-hoc reports for management or other information customers
- Complete the necessary job cards relating to the task done including description of work and spares used
- Participate in required meetings including safety
- Accurately complete role administration requirements
- Act in Plant Supervisor positions
This role is at a C2 level reporting to the Electrical FLM
Qualifications
- Certified Competent as Millwright
- Millwright trade certificate
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Relevant maintenance experience in a processing plant, smelter, or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience with Medium Voltage (MV) switching advantageous.
- Ability to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience working on rotating equipment, motors, drives, pumps, and conveyor systems.
- Shift work experience in a production environment.
