Job Description

The Miller in training is a developmental position that will serve as a relief and backfill for our Miller positions. The Miller-in-training will learn to efficiently operate the Flour and Corn mill units and the Cleaning House during a shift. They will be responsible for meeting all Safety, Quality, and Production goals, including target mill yields. The Miller-in-training will help direct Mill Attendant activities according to departmental demands during their shift. The Miller-in-training will work with the change Millers to develop the knowledge base needed to operate the mill efficiently.

The Miller in Training will relieve shift millers for vacations, absences or extended time off and must be able to work off shifts and weekends as business needs demand. In the event of a Miller position coming open, the Miller in Training would transition into that role on a full-time basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously supervise the mill operations throughout a shift.
  • Plan, direct and execute daily shift milling duties for the shift crew to perform to meet business needs..
  • Check break roll extractions daily. Analyze results and make necessary adjustments.
  • Observe operation of rolls and continuously assure stocks are properly distributed and that roll gaps and brushes are set to maximize grinding efficiency and yields.
  • Will be responsible for inspecting and adjusting purifiers, sifters and other mill related equipment
  • Proactive in identifying problems and resolving them, and/or taking steps to alert their supervisor.
  • Follows company processes and procedures in the operation of the equipment.
  • Cleans the equipment and general work areas, including the assigned floor.
  • Must work safely while operating the machinery and working in the production areas.
  • Must follow Quality processes and procedures.
  • Must fill out required documents accurately and honestly.
  • Must have good attendance and be punctual to work.
  • Must work with other members of the team successfully
  • Coordinates the work with other departments as needed.
  • Must be able to manage time well and be productive at all times.
  • Must perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and must have flexible hours.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and on Holidays as needed.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • Must be able to read, write and understand instructions, and be able to fill out work required documents accurately and effectively, and comply with safety and hazard signage in English i.e.: the instruction manuals for the equipment.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in a written format with Management and other employees.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in a written format all work-related issues.
  • A high school diploma / GED is preferred

Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years of successful experience managing/operating various equipment lines in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Must have successful teamwork skills.
  • Successful ability to work alone.

Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with other associates.
  • Ability to manage their time and perform the work to effectively complete the daily requirements.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform all aspects of the job at all times.
  • Must have the initiative to get things done correctly and correct problems.
  • Must have strong attention to details.
  • Must be self-directed at work and take the infinitive to perform high quality work.
  • Must be flexible to train on other shifts

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise.
  • Work environment involves moderate exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards.
  • Physical effort. Requires standing, sitting, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, fine dexterity, and handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
