Title: Middle School Vex Robotics Coach

Reports To: Principal

Job Goal: The person employed as a Middle School Robotics will:

QUALIFICATIONS

The person employed as the middle school robotics coach will possess the following qualifications:

Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate or coaching certification

• Willingness to obtain Vex V-5 Certification within a specified time frame
• Completion of a background check
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong planning, organization, and project/time management skills to effectively design and implement instruction and trainings
• Well-developed interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse co-workers, administrators, students, staff, and other stakeholders
• Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience
• Thorough knowledge of coaching principles and practices
• Knowledge of budgeting and financial arrangements
• Knowledge of rules and regulations as they pertain to the area being coached and ability
• Successful completion of the interview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

• Coach individual participants in the necessary skills for excellent achievement in competitive robotics
• Collaborate with other competitive robotics coaches and county personnel to promote the overall success of the countywide robotics program
• Abide by regional, county, state, and federal rules and regulations for Vex Robotics (VRC)
• Ensure registration of the team(s) as VEX Robotics competition team(s)
• Ensure the build of a competitive robot and documentation of the building process for each registered team.
• Participate in multiple competitions per academic year
• Plan and schedule regular program of practice
• Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the activity is being held
• Enforce discipline and sportsman like behavior among participants in the activity
• Make transportation requests for team travel
• Accept responsibility for the care of robotics equipment
• Be familiar with and follow the guidelines established in Ohio County Board of Education Regulation 4020.01
• Perform other duties as assigned.
