Job Category: Instructional FacultyBullis School seeks a Middle School Science Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community for the 2026-27 academic year. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching a range of middle school science courses, with a particular focus on developing and delivering an engaging, hands-on science curriculum. This is a full-time, 10-month position reporting to the Head of Middle School. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, serving as an advisor, and contributing to department initiatives. All Middle School faculty participate as chaperones for a week-long Discovery Days experiential trip with students in the spring. Additional opportunities to supervise co-curricular activities may be available based on interest and school needs.
About the Middle School Science Department: The Middle School Science program at Bullis believes in developing students who are passionate, confident, and curious about science. Students are immersed in content through an inquiry-based curriculum aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, focusing on Core Ideas, Crosscutting Concepts, and Science and Engineering Practices. Grounded in a sense of caring and community, Middle School students embrace academic challenges and acquire scientific knowledge through lab-based practices, digital tools, fieldwork, and collaborative activities. Facilitated by highly skilled faculty passionate about teaching the whole child, students develop academic confidence, leadership ability, and organizational skills while gaining real-world applicable content that helps them understand the relevance of science in everyday life, identify connections between various sciences, explore scientific careers, and prepare for advanced study.

Duties &
QualificationsEssential Functions
- Teach five classes per academic year
- Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
- Collaborate with science colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives
- Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject-area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
- Use technology to enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning
- Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
- Utilize laboratory notebooks, lab practica, and authentic assessments to assess student’s content and laboratory skills
- Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
- Collaborate with grade-level colleagues to develop project-based learning opportunities for students
- Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
- Attend Middle School divisional, social studies department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
- Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students

Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Education or related field
- Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Science, Education or related field
- Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated salary range of $65,000 to $100,000.
