Middle School Math and Religion Teacher
Full-Time

Payroll Grade: 14 FLSA Status: EXEMPT

Basic Job Description: This position is for teaching Middle School Math for part of the day and Middle School Religion for the other part of the day.

Reports to Principal

Responsibilities/Tasks for: Middle School teacher

  1. Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  2. Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  3. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  4. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  5. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  6. Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
  7. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  8. Assign and grade class work and homework.
  9. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  10. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
  11. Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  12. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, diocesan policies, and administrative regulations.
  13. Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests.
  14. Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the school, state, and diocese.
  15. Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
  16. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning and health problems.
  17. Use technology and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  18. Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
  19. Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.
  20. Prepare reports on students and activities as required by the administration.
  21. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  22. Maintain professional competence by attending professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence for Act 48.
  23. Plan, supervise, and guide students in learning from class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities.
  24. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  25. Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret the results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
  26. Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
  27. Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  28. Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
  29. Prepare and supervise students for Mass.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required):

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in education, mathematics, religion, theology, Catholic studies, or a related field.
  • An active teaching certification is preferred. Otherwise, be willing to work towards obtaining one.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Must comply with PA State clearance requirements.
  • Must be a Catholic in good standing.
