The Middle School Language Arts Long Term Substitute Teacher will report to the Division Director and teach 5th and 6th grade as well as serving as a homeroom teacher. The Teacher is responsible for applying their expertise to develop and deliver courses/programs, so students learn and reach their academic goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach a Language Arts curriculum with emphasis on writing strategies.
- Evaluation of student portfolios and other materials to conduct learning assessments of students
- Supervise students in non-classroom activities as assigned and schedule including supervisions, such as lunch, study hall, and recess duty.
- Attend required department, faculty, and school meetings
- Communicate effectively as a team member with fellow faculty in the grade level, department, and middle school as a whole
- Cultivate an inclusive and supportive climate for all students, particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds
- Uses educational technology as a vital part of teaching
- Other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education or related field is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in English, Education or related field is required.
- 3-5+ years teaching experience in English/Language Arts
- Someone who places a high value on diversity and fosters an appreciation for differences in our community.
- Experience developing strategies for improving students’ reading, writing, and presentation skills
- Well versed in utilizing educational technology, contributed to interdisciplinary projects, and has experience with project- based learning is desired.
- Understands the needs of children and supports the social/emotional growth of all students.
- Experience or familiarity with the six traits of writing programs preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand for long periods at a time
- Able to speak clearly so listeners can understand; able to understand others
- Able to see details of people and objects more than a few feet away
