Job Description

POSITION TITLE: ELL Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Learning Services
STATUS:   Certified - Exempt
HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours a day

PAY: Certified Salary Schedule
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of ELL



This position, a member of the district’s ELL department, is a critical role in improving student achievement of our ELL students. The role of the ELL teacher is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of research-based instructional practices for ELLs and all students.  They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing a formative cycle of feedback to collaborative teams. The ELL teacher will demonstrate and model a passion for education and leadership.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coaches and supports teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality instruction for ELLs.

  • Collaborates with building and district administrators.

  • Plans, models, and co-teaches effective lessons with teachers.

  • Regularly visits classrooms and PLCs to collaborate with and to provide feedback to teachers to improve instructional planning, delivery, and assessment, including planning for ongoing monitoring and support for successful student achievement.

  • Assists in the development and delivery of professional development for classroom teachers

  • Assists in the development and delivery of professional development for ELL aides

  • Meets regularly with the district ELL instructional coach regarding students and instruction.

  • Participates in on-going professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance such as knowledge in language acquisition, literacy development, coaching skills, and adult learning theory.

  • Keeps abreast of all federal and state Title III guidelines.

  • Assists in ELL program presentations, professional development sessions, student placement screenings, state assessments, and trainings as needed.

  • Assists the ELL instructional coach as needed with projects or programming related to the ELL program.

  • Assists with the selection of instructional materials, instructional resources, and equipment for the ELL program.

  • Assists schools with PLCs and the MTSS process. 


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Kansas teaching license and English for Speakers of Other Languages endorsement

  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in an ELL position

  • Experience as a classroom teacher



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong background in instruction and instructional leadership

  • Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and administrators on a day-to-day basis

  • Knowledge about best practices for teaching ELLs

  • Knowledge about the ESOL standards and other content standards

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

  • High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Highly collaborative team player

  • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results

  • Effective decision-making skills; capable of having crucial conversations

  • Life-long learner

  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)
