
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 Day Contract. Also 206 hours during the summer to work with the 6th Grade Band, 7th & 8th Grade Band as well as the High School Marching Band.
-Develop students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover appropriate band literature styles for school and competitive performances.
-Design and implement a wide variety of appropriate instructional activities for students of varying abilities and talents in an inclusive environment.
-Evaluate student achievement and adjust instruction accordingly.
-Teach a variety of vastly different skills on different instruments simultaneously.
-Effectively manage large classes of students.
-Organize and maintain a large inventory of equipment.
-Organize and maintain a large inventory of instructional materials and music library.
-Plan logistics and transportation for events outside of school for community and school connections.
-Plan and organize concerts and other public performances.
-Supervise large groups of students in activities outside of school hours and off campus.
-Responsible for budgeted and fundraised money accounts.
-Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
-Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
-Communicate and work with band parent(s) organization.
-Maintain membership in ISSMA and IBA (Indiana Bandmaster's Association).
-Direct the Pep Band for basketball games.
-Encourage and facilitate participation in the annual ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival.
-Collaborate with the other BCSC elementary band directors to plan the elementary band curriculum, literature selections, and quarterly concerts.
-Other duties as assigned, e.g., local parades, etc.
Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation. Serve on committees as assigned.
Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)
This position is based at Northside Middle school with some elementary school band responsibilities. There are two classes of 7th grade band, and one class of 8th grade band at Northside MS.
The Elementary Band is at Mt. Healthy Elementary on Mondays and Wednesdays and Rockcreek Elementary on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:00pm.
Works in standard office and school building environments.
