TITLE: Middle School Assistant Cheer Coach - Non-Paid Position

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Camdenton R-III School District is seeking a supportive and dedicated coach to support the head coach in managing the cheerleading program, teaching foundational skills, and promoting student safety and sportsmanship .

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must meet MSHSAA Coaching Requirements 3.1.5.
• All other individuals must complete one-time or biennial requirements prior to coaching as outlined below:

1. Background Check including Sex-Offender's Registry Clearance prior to coaching.
2. Board of Education or Board of Governance Approval prior to coaching.
3. Successful completion of a Concussion in Sports Course, and review of current concussion information yearly.
4. Successful completion of the MSHSAA Sport-Specific Online Rules Review and Test each season.
5. Successful completion of a Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training prior to approval and renewed every two years.
6. Successful completion of a course in Heat Illness Prevention/Recognition, which must be renewed every two years. 7. Successful completion of a Sports First Aid/CPR/AED training course prior to coaching and renewed every two years.
8. Assignment of a Mentor Coach/Administrator (three years of experience or more) for a period of three years.

i. Preseason meetings which include, but are not limited to, specific discussion of school policies, equipment responsibility, behavior expectations, procedures to follow in case of an emergency, etc. is satisfactorily completed.

ii. In-season meetings to discuss athlete or parent interactions.

iii. Post season meetings to evaluate coaching experience.

1. Prior to the first year's season of coaching, the following must be completed:

i. NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course

ii. NFHS Coaching "Sport" Course for any sport for which an individual will be coaching, if available

1. Prior to the second year of coaching, the following must be completed:

i. NFHS Teaching Sports Skills Course

ii. NFHS Bullying, Hazing and Inappropriate Behavior Course

1. Prior to the third year of coaching, the following must be completed:

i. NFHS Teaching and Modeling Behavior

ii. NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse

1. Prior to the fourth year of coaching, the following must be completed:

i. NFHS Engaging Effectively with Parents Course

ii. NFHS Coaching Mental Wellness

1. Prior to the fifth year of coaching, the following must be completed:

i. NFHS Adolescent Development: Centering Athlete Needs

ii. NFHS Developing Youth Through Sport

• Pass all background checks and screenings.
• Proficient in methods of instruction for sport/activity specific skills.

REPORTS TO: High School Athletic Director and sport or activity specific Head Coach/Sponsor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the head coach in planning daily practices, conditioning, and routines.
• Teach basic cheer fundamentals, motions, jumps, and safe stunting or tumbling progressions appropriate for middle school athletes.
• Monitor a safe environment during practices and performances, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols (such as concussion rules and first aid).
• Direct, mentor, and motivate players during practices and games.
• Help organize tryouts, manage equipment inventory, and supervise travel to games or events.
• Monitor student-athletes during practices, tournaments, and travel.
• Maintain open, professional communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic directors.
• Knowledge and understanding of the MSHSAA by-laws.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Board Policy for Staff Conduct

• The volunteer coach must be a responsible person with known character, sportsmanship, and integrity that can be a role model for athletes, students and fans.
• They shall respect the dignity and worth of each student under their direction.
• Understand the issues and pressures that may arise for both the coach and student when volunteering for a team that includes their child.
• The head coach or sponsor will decide the role of the volunteer during practices, games and in the overall program. This role may change as the year or season progresses.
• Although there will be input from volunteer coaches, the final decisions regarding the program philosophy, strategy, and playing time will be the responsibility of the head coach or sponsor. Any disagreements about these aspects of coaching must be discussed at an appropriate time, away from the students / athletes.
• A volunteer coach will serve in a support capacity as long as their impact on the program is deemed positive by the Head Coach, Activity Director, Principal or Superintendent.
• Must adhere to MSHSAAA 3.14.5 Sport-Specific instruction by Private Organizers
• No member school or member of the coaching staff of the school the student is attending or will be attending the following year is involved in any way in the organization, sponsorship, or administration of the sport-specific instruction.
• No school coach or other school representative may directly or by implication direct a student to attend specialized sports instruction as a condition for team membership

Additional Duties:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Middle School Athletic Director, or Central Office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
