Blackbird Lab is a software development company. While we are practicing an international working culture, we are proud representatives of Ukrainian values and traditions. Being in this craft for 8+ years, we managed to accumulate expertise and bring value to a number of clients. We cooperate with US and Canadian product companies of different sizes, from small startups to established products, in close, trusted relationships.

All team members, including management, have an engineering background. The process, participants who speak the same language and have a similar approach based on technical principles, is always efficient. It is way easier to make decisions and introduce new features in a team with engineering at heart. It is the technical DNA that lets us build high-quality products that facilitate the lives of our customers’ users.

Position & client

Our client is a Canadian software company that builds a digital shopping marketplace for shoppers to get local savings and deals. The product is a flyer – a digital circular platform that enables users to browse and compare weekly ads and deals from retailers across North America. With Flyers users can search for deals on specific products or browse through full flyers from their favorite stores. The platform offers a range of features, including the ability to clip and save deals, create shopping lists, and set deal alerts for specific products. Our client is an established, profitable company that has been in the business for over 10 years.

Who we are looking for

This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute to building reliable, scalable, and resilient infrastructure on AWS, supporting developer productivity through automation and platform tools.

You’ll treat infrastructure as a product, not just a support layer — and as you grow, you’ll take on increasing ownership of the systems you help build.

What you will do

  • Contribute to building and improving tools for deployment, monitoring, observability, and security.

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to support infrastructure design, scaling, and automation.

  • Identify opportunities to automate workflows and create self-service features for developers.

  • Join the on-call rotation and respond to incidents as a first line of support.

  • Provide operational support to engineering teams through a kanban-based request flow.

  • Write clear documentation and playbooks, and share knowledge through workshops and best practices.

  • Collaborate with external vendors during integrations and incident troubleshooting.

What you will need

  • Experience with infrastructure automation on AWS (or another major cloud).

  • Good knowledge of Linux systems administration.

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes.

  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, Go, or Shell).

  • Familiarity with observability, incident response, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong communication skills: you’re clear, proactive, and collaborative.

  • A customer-first mindset: you treat internal developers like customers and care about their experience.

  • Growth mindset: you seek feedback, ask good questions, and are eager to continuously improve.

  • Upper-Intermediate+ in English and Fluent in Ukrainian.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools.

  • Prior experience working in a distributed, global team across time zones.

We’re following Kanban with an SLA of 3 days per task.
