ABOUT TRABUS

Trabus Technologies (TRABUS) is a minority-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) headquartered in San Diego, providing advanced wireless technology solutions, cybersecurity expertise, artificial intelligence, data science, and software engineering capabilities to federal and commercial clients since 2010. Our diverse technical strengths span emerging wireless innovations and engineering support to the armed services.

TRABUS has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list over the years, reflecting our continued growth and commitment to delivering innovative, mission-focused solutions to our customers.

POSITION SUMMARY

TRABUS has an opportunity for a Mid-Level Software Integration & Test Engineer to drive end-to-end software integration, automated regression testing, and final system validation for next-generation Software-Defined Radio (SDR) wireless mesh networking systems. In this role, you will design rigorous test cases, build automated test suites for embedded radio controls and REST APIs, and validate complex mesh networks from early software integration through final release verification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, execute, and maintain detailed test plans and test procedures covering functional, performance, security, and edge-case scenarios for embedded software, REST APIs, and wireless mesh networks.
  • Build, expand, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks using Python, PyTest, Robot Framework, or shell scripting integrated into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous software stability.
  • Collaborate with software, RF, and hardware engineers to integrate embedded control software, low-level SDR firmware, RESTful microservices, and database layers into unified deployment candidates.
  • Set up and conduct lab-based RF channel simulation, network impairment testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testbeds, and field testing to evaluate dynamic topology discovery and key performance metrics, including throughput, latency, and packet loss.
  • Identify, reproduce, document, and track software defect reports using issue tracking systems such as Jira.
  • Validate system readiness, generate verification reports, and approve software builds for final production delivery.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–5 years of dedicated software testing and system integration experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for building automated test suites, interacting with REST APIs, and parsing log file streams.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, socket communications, and experience using packet analyzers such as Wireshark to inspect traffic flow and diagnose network issues.
  • Experience validating software on embedded Linux platforms, microcontrollers, or Software-Defined Radio (SDR) hardware setups.
  • Hands-on experience testing REST APIs and microservices using tools such as Postman, PyTest, or custom script suites.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to defense/government compliance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance is required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions and Docker containerization.
  • Exposure to RF instrumentation, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, or channel simulators, or SDR frameworks such as GNU Radio.
  • Familiarity with dynamic mesh routing protocols such as OLSR or BATMAN-adv, or hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) environments.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Incorporated in 2010, TRABUS provides professional support services to the U.S. government and specializes in the development of technical solutions across five major portfolios: Wireless Technologies, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, Maritime Transportation, Environmental Informatics, and Cybersecurity. With just under 50 employees, the majority of the TRABUS workforce consists of scientists, engineers, military veterans, and management professionals who support to the local defense industrial base and a growing number of technical innovations in wireless communications and data science.

TRABUS has made the “Inc. 5000” list seven years in a row as one of the 5,000 fastest-growing privately held small companies in the United States. In 2022, TRABUS was recognized as one of Southern California’s Cool Companies by San Diego Connect and was featured in San Diego’s first annual innovation day—Five.Ten.Thirty— as one of the fastest growing and most exciting Tech & Life Sciences companies in the region. Also in 2022, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce named Trabus Technologies Innovator of the Year for the development of a ground-breaking wireless innovation called SEPP. This spectrally efficient peer-to-peer technology allows for simultaneous wireless conversations on the same frequency without the need for cell towers or infrastructure. TRABUS’ other best-known innovation, RippleGo, is a state-of-the-art information-sharing solution for the maritime transportation industry that provides up-to-date information on travel time predictions, bridge clearance calculations, forecasted river level conditions, navigation hazards and lock status changes using data analytics and artificial intelligence.
