What this role is all about
As a Mid Backend Engineer in this team, you will work on building and evolving compliance-focused platform services that enable global messaging at scale. The team develops internal and external tools, APIs, and backend services that handle campaign registration, validation, and vetting before any SMS or MMS traffic is sent to market, particularly in North America. You will collaborate closely with Product, have a direct influence on product design decisions, and work on technically and conceptually complex problems where compliance becomes an engineering challenge, not just a legal one.
What you’ll do
Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs for compliance-related platform applications used internally and externally
Develop and operate distributed microservices handling campaign registration, validation, and vetting workflows
Work primarily with Java-based backend systems using Spring, MSSQL, Kafka, and event-driven architectures
Collaborate closely with Product Managers to shape solutions and influence product and platform design
Participate in an agile setup with two-week sprints, short daily standups, and a strong focus on minimizing unnecessary meetings
Apply an AI-first mindset when approaching engineering problems
Effectively leverage AI to improve code quality, testing processes, and technical documentation
What makes you a strong fit
3+ years of solid experience as a backend engineer working with distributed systems and microservice architectures
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles
Experience with Java and Spring, or strong backend experience in another object-oriented language
Hands-on experience with relational databases
Familiarity with messaging systems and streaming platforms such as Kafka
Ability to work independently on backend tasks while collaborating effectively within a team
Comfortable working in a product-oriented environment with direct interaction with Product stakeholders
Fluent in English, both spoken and written
Nice-to-have qualifications
Previous exposure to compliance-heavy domains, regulated systems, or platform engineering
Experience contributing to or maintaining AI-assisted tooling or LLM-based systems
Some experience with frontend technologies or API consumer-facing portals
Interest in mentoring junior engineers or supporting internship programs
