Job Description

First Shift: Sunday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm & Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 4:00 PM

Starting rate $18.00 per hour.

The Microbiology Lab Assistant will perform limited microbiology functions. In accordance with standard operating procedures, follows all applicable regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Daily BacT/Alert quality control maintenance.
  2. Removal of finalized cultures from the BacT/Alert.
  3. Verifies Vitek temperature is acceptable.
  4. Performs the following basic duties in the microbiology lab:

a. Swab inoculation of Thio and TSB

b. Log in specimens (electronically and manually)

c. Pull discard tubes

d. Daily temperatures/CO2 readings

e. Log in new media, reagents and supplies

f. Performs weekly eye wash/shower maintenance

g. Performs weekly hood QC

h. Incubator and refrigerator quarterly PM

i. Troubleshoots the temperature monitoring system

j. Weekly cleaning of irradiation /rinsate room

k. File paperwork

l. Change CO2 tanks

m. 2nd check CTMS and manual log ins

n. Clean lab spaces

o. Organize and restock lab supplies

p. MicroCheck tube discard

  1. Performs follow ups with branches as necessary.
  2. Irradiation Load specimens:

a. Log in specimens

b. Label tubes

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to meet the required physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation.
