Job Description

The Manager of Trauma and Critical Care Ultrasound will oversee the daily operations, educational programs, clinical applications, and technical infrastructure of the Trauma/Critical Care Ultrasound Program at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. This role provides leadership in ultrasound education for fellows and faculty, manages all ultrasound equipment and applications, and ensures the integration of ultrasound technology into bedside patient care, research, and billing workflows. The Manager serves as the principal liaison between clinical teams, information systems, vendors, and hospital administration to maintain excellence in ultrasound-based patient assessment and education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs the Trauma and Critical Care Ultrasound Program, ensuring alignment with institutional goals in education, research, and clinical care.
  • Oversees operations and maintenance of all ultrasound systems (currently 24 devices) in the Trauma ICUs, ensuring connectivity with EPIC and ISCV.
  • Manages implementation and optimization of ultrasound applications (e.g., Butterfly IQ, Philips ISCV) including user registration, integration, workflow design, and billing capture.
  • Coordinates with coding, billing, and IS&T departments to ensure accurate and efficient reimbursement for bedside ultrasound exams.
  • Leads acquisition, installation, and configuration of new ultrasound equipment and protocols in collaboration with clinical engineering and vendor partners.
  • Develops and delivers ultrasound education for surgical, critical care, and nurse practitioner fellows, providing hands-on training and performance evaluation.
  • Designs and teaches curriculum for ultrasound imaging including cardiac, hepatic, renal, ocular, lung, and focused assessments.
  • Supports and instructs faculty during institutional ultrasound training courses and workshops.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • ARDMS certification or equivalent required. and experience
  • Current compliance with institutional credentialing for ultrasound practice
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in diagnostic medical sonography, with at least 5 years in a leadership, supervisory, or program management role preferably in a trauma or critical care environment
  • Proven expertise in ultrasound education, system integration, and program coordination within an academic medical setting

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
