This position is responsible for developing and coordinating work plans and schedules for the Capital, Incremental, O&M, and Failure work performed in substations for the Mississippi Grid. The manager is also responsible for ensuring that tasks are planned and scheduled in a timely manner and adequate time and resources are allocated to complete the work safely and in compliance with NERC Reliability Standards.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the Grid Planner / Scheduler organization and manages the work management process for the Grid
  • Champions the Tier 1 and/or Nuclear maintenance programs for the Grid
  • Champion the AM Work Management Process within the Grid
  • Provide oversight of required SERC maintenance tasks to ensure they are executed within established intervals
  • Ensure transmission protection system failures and maintenance activities are properly evaluated and performed in accordance with established procedures
  • Provide direct supervision to engineering, technical specialist, planner/scheduler and analytical personnel, including development of substation design packages, calculations, drawings, standards, and engineering evaluations, for capital blanket projects
  • Assist Asset Management in development of the annual capital and O&M work plans
  • Manage the development and implementation of project schedules and ensure they are completed on time, within budget and as designed
  • Provide organizational focus for activities related to SERC/NERC standards for compliance
  • Maintain asset changes in accordance with configuration management requirements and procedures
  • Provide technical analysis and leadership for reliability issues
  • Support routine and emergency response to substation equipment failures and problems including DFR and smart relay support, service restoration and root cause analysis
  • Ensure work is performed in a team environment by interfacing with Transmission Operations Center, Distribution Operations Center, engineering, Project Management & Construction, distribution, generation, major accounts, and other internal and external customers
  • Manage substation support material and the mobile equipment fleet to ensure availability is maintained for emergency outages and failures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Experience and Education

  • With a BS in Engineering: 8 years of substation related experience, or 6 years of progressive and applicable experience including supervisory experience
  • Without a BS in Engineering: 12 years of substation related experience, or 10 years of progressive and applicable experience including supervisory experience
  • Preferred
    • Electrical Engineering degree
    • MBA, PMP, PE

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of utility safety policies and exceptionally strong commitment to safety
  • Familiar with NERC/FERC/SERC requirements related to utility industry
  • Effective oral and written communication skills at multiple levels of the organization
  • Significant understanding of Substation Work Management System (SWMS), Transmission Automated Outage Request System (TAORS), Paperless Condition Report system (PCRs) or similar software programs
  • Strong background in protective relaying and substation power equipment
  • Available and on-call 24 hours/day to respond to system emergencies, which often require immediate decisions and actions
  • Strong working knowledge of basic computer programs
