What to Expect

The Metrology Engineering Technician will work as a technical support member in the dimensional engineering group for measurement tasks. The successful candidate will work with different metrology equipment to program and/or run programs for part level sub-assemblies as dictated by the dimensional control plan or diagnostic request from engineering. There may be occasional work on the production floor with portable metrology equipment measuring parts on a car, part scans alone, tooling fixtures, material handling tooling etc. It is fundamental that the candidate has prior experience with interpreting GD&T part drawings and ability to create measurement programs from scratch on metrology software.

What You’ll Do

  • Create, edit or run measurement programs for different part sub-assemblies for the Cybertruck, MY and Cybercab vehicles
  • Train and work with the newest technology available. This includes Automation Scanning systems, CMMs, Laser Trackers, Romer Arms, ScanBox and Nikon Laser radar systems
  • Perform Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR) studies to evaluate measurement methods
  • Practice 5S cyclical methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to drive continuous improvement in the lab workspace
  • Collaborate with Engineering groups for fixture design and measurement strategies. Review part point clouds and provide reports with Tesla specific format required for reporting

What You’ll Bring

  • 1-year minimum experience in a technical metrology role or equivalent experience
  • Experience with at least one metrology vision software (Polyworks/Zeiss Inspect/PC-DIMS/Metrolog X4) is required, multiple is highly preferred
  • Experience working Leica laser tracker/AS1 scanners/Scanbox is an asset
  • Experience working from point cloud creation to report building with CM4D is an asset
  • Ability to develop measurement programs and run necessary R&R reports to determine accuracy of data from program and fixtures

Essential Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
  • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
