Transportation Maint Tech IPerforms routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Maint Tech IIPerforms moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as maintenance contract inspection and/or material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Maintenance Tech I:Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork.Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Maintenance Tech II:Includes all essential duties listed for Transportation Maint Tech I as well as:Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records resultsIdentifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education:Transportation Maint Tech I and IINo education required. Experience:Transportation Maint Tech I:No experience required (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Transportation Maint Tech II:1 year transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) Licenses and Certifications:Transportation Maint Tech I and II:Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within120 calendar days from date of employment.
