Zayo is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Metro Dark Fiber Testing Closeout Package Intern to join our OSP Construction team. This internship provides hands-on experience in fiber optic network testing, data analysis, and troubleshooting for metro dark fiber infrastructure. The ideal candidate will work closely with experienced network engineers and field technicians to ensure the integrity and performance of our dark fiber assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze field staff deliverables from testing and validation of dark fiber routes using industry-standard equipment such as Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), power meters, and light sources.

  • Conduct fiber characterization tests, including insertion loss, backscatter analysis, and dispersion measurements.

  • Analyze test results and collaborate with senior engineers to diagnose and resolve fiber performance issues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of test results, fiber maps, and network configurations.

  • Support the implementation of quality assurance protocols to ensure optimal fiber network performance.

  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in fiber optics and network infrastructure.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Networking, or a related field.

  • Basic understanding of fiber optic principles, including attenuation, dispersion, and reflection.

  • Familiarity with fiber optic testing equipment (OTDRs, power meters, etc.) is a plus.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical data.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Willingness to travel to field locations as needed.

  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions and perform hands-on technical tasks.

Estimated base pay range for this role: $23.00-$25.00 USD/hour.

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance and 401(k).

The posting will be active for a minimum of 3 days. The active posting will continue to extend by 3 days until the position is filled.
