Under general supervision, perform technical work supporting the planning, testing, and maintenance of AEP metering facilities. Recognized as an **EPS Meter Inspector and Commissioning Agent** at the Technician Specialist level for specified installations, assisting with EPS inspections, meter programming, and test documentation in accordance with ERCOT Protocol and EPS requirements.
EPS Inspection & Commissioning Support
Assist with EPS commissioning: verify basic meter form and wiring; confirm CT/PT ratios and nameplate data; perform and document instructed tests.
Collect and organize test records, configuration files, and one‑line updates for EPS packages under supervision.

What You'll Do:

  • Functions as a team leader to resolves conflict, builds consensus; develops and presents technical reports clearly, concisely, and effectively.

  • Makes decisions that affect the work of the team, also maintains an awareness of risk; exhibits awareness of AEP competitive position and how business decisions impact their organizational unit; understands organizational goals and offers suggestions on how best to achieve these goals.

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and perform technical functions required in relevant area of assignment; demonstrates a good ability to use technical and computer tools to perform assignments in most cost effective method possible; demonstrates good knowledge and ensures compliance with standards, codes, regulations, practices, and procedures in area of assignment.

  • Prepares cost estimates for non-routine work, i.e., special projects as assigned; uses records to better plan future work; plans, organizes and conducts meetings.

  • Works routine assignments by problem solving; seeks out new opportunities and areas of learning which increases value to AEP.

  • Repairs moderately complex electronic instruments, controls, and equipment in a cost efficient manner. Provides support in the daily operation of the repair shop facilities including analysis of data, preparation of reports, maintaining records, etc. Provide solutions and solve routine and moderately complex problems.

  • Develops software programs related to meter services activities which are cost effective and support improved productivity.

  • Tests, maintains, and operates all types of metering equipment and related test equipment including single phase meters, polyphase meters, electromechanical meters, electronic meters and equipment, multifunctional meters, data recorders, transducers, hand held PC, power quality equipment, standards, controls, etc.

  • Supports Transmission and Generation level metering, including the programming, installation, and testing, as required

  • Participates in the development of training material and provide training support for internal and external audiences, related to meter services.

  • Performs acceptance evaluations on new equipment; evaluate failure of new and old equipment; document results, compile reports, and make recommendations for equipment applications or resolution of problems.

  • Provides assistance to others in the performance of technical work related to engineering; provide sketches, drawings, material lists, cost estimates, reports, etc., as required.

  • Performs duties in accordance with the Company safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.

  • Complies with and supports ethically sound behavior and instill a sense of shared accountability among employees.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by proper authority.

What You'll Need:

Must have a two-year associate degree in electrical/electronic technology.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Two years experience as a Meter Technician, Meter Electrician A, P&C Technician, or equivalent/

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:

Possess a valid state driver license. Attain licenses, certifications, permits, notaries, etc., required for area of responsibility

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demand level is Medium

  • Must have safe work habits and adhere to all safety rules and practices of the Company.

  • Acceptable written and verbal communications skills.

  • Work productively and function effectively in a team environment.

  • Must be willing to work overtime as required by job responsibilities.

  • Must acquire within such time frame as determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher classification in the line of progression, or vacate the current job classification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to hear spoken words via telephone, cell phone or during individual or group meetings.

  • Must be physically capable of performing all the essential physical functions of the position.

  • Depending on assignment, may be required to work on customer facilities in remote or rough terrain.

Compensation Range:

$42.13 - $52.67

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
