Job Description

METER TECHNICIAN

Department: Meters

Full-time: Hands-on field role • Water, gas & electric submetering • Up to 25% travel • Company

vehicle provided

Conservice is a leading utility and billing management company serving the multifamily housing industry.

Property management companies rely on us to manage utility services and billing across their properties.

The Big Picture

Meter Technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water, gas, and electric submeters and their

communication systems across multifamily properties and select retail locations to ensure accurate

utility billing data collection.

Is this role right for you?

This is a hands-on field role for someone who is dependable and adaptable. Expect changing start times,

up to 25% of travel including overnight stays, required overtime and physical work at heights and in tight

spaces. Customers plan their day around our technicians, so reliable attendance is a must.

Responsibilities

Installation & Service

  • Install, program, configure, calibrate, and replace water, gas, and electric submeters and

communication systems at multifamily properties, new construction sites, and select retail locations.

  • Inspect, test, and troubleshoot meter performance, connectivity, and data transmission. Repair or

replace faulty equipment.

  • Represent Conservice professionally with property owners, managers, contractors, and retail staff.

Answer submetering questions and resolve service needs.

Documentation & Safety

  • Keep accurate records of all field work. Upload work orders, photos, and notes daily.
  • Follow all SOPs, safety policies, and department processes.

Inventory

  • Receive, record, secure, and track assigned inventory, equipment, and materials following Conservice

procedures.

  • Prepare the materials needed for scheduled installations and service work.
  • Complete weekly cycle counts, keep physical inventory aligned with system records, and promptly

report and help resolve any discrepancies, damage, or loss.

Company Vehicle

  • Keep the assigned company vehicle clean, organized, safe, and in good working condition at all times.

Off-street parking is required.

  • Complete routine maintenance on schedule, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and

other manufacturer-recommended service, following Conservice fleet procedures.

  • Make sure vehicle registration stays current and that all required state and local inspections are

completed on time, such as safety and emissions inspections.

  • Use the company vehicle and gas card only for approved business purposes, in line with Conservice

vehicle policy.

Schedule, Travel & Reliability

  • The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an unpaid meal break.

Start and end times often shift based on property access, customer availability, project deadlines, and

drive time, so expect early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekends.

  • Schedules and routes may change with little notice, sometimes the same day.
  • Driving to jobs is part of normal day-to-day work. Technicians should also expect up to 25% travel

outside their home market, which may require overnight stays. This lets us support markets with

higher demand, staffing gaps, or urgent client needs. Some positions may require more travel, which

will be disclosed before hiring.

  • Overnight travel is usually scheduled 7–10 days in advance, and occasionally on shorter notice.
  • Overtime is required based on workload, travel, and customer commitments. Overtime and travel

time are paid in accordance with applicable law.

  • Reliability is essential. Customers schedule property access around our technicians, so a missed or

late appointment directly affects them. Technicians must arrive on time, keep dependable

attendance, follow the department call-in procedure, and stay reachable on their company phone

during work hours. Unscheduled absences and late arrivals are handled under Conservice's

attendance policy. Absences protected by law are handled in accordance with applicable law.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Regularly climb ladders, work at heights, and lift and carry 50+ pounds.
  • Work in attics, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and other tight spaces, and outdoors in all weather,

including extreme heat and cold.

  • Stand, kneel, bend, crouch, and reach overhead for long periods.
  • Work around energized electrical equipment and pressurized gas and water lines, wearing required

PPE and following all safety procedures.

  • Drive a company vehicle for extended periods.

These physical requirements must be met with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with no more than two moving violation convictions in the past 24 months,

and no DUI, DWI, or reckless driving violations in the past 5 years. Driving records are reviewed

before hire and must meet these standards throughout employment. Technicians must promptly

notify their manager of any license suspension or moving violation.

  • REAL ID-compliant license or ID card, or another federally accepted ID for air travel.
  • Background check after a conditional offer of employment. Technicians work inside residents'

homes and are responsible for company vehicles, equipment, and inventory. Because of this,

criminal history, particularly convictions involving theft, fraud, or dishonesty, is reviewed case by

case for its relevance to the role, in line with applicable law and Conservice policy.

  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen after a conditional offer of employment. Technicians must

remain drug- and alcohol-free while working, and are subject to ongoing testing as outlined in

Conservice policy and applicable state and local law. This may include random,

reasonable-suspicion, and post-accident testing.

  • OSHA-10 certification at hire, or completion of an OSHA-10 course within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to meet the schedule, overtime, travel, physical, and vehicle care requirements above.
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Comfortable using a laptop, smartphone, and mobile work apps.

Preferred:

  • Experience in submetering, utilities, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or wireless communication

equipment.

Equipment & Training

  • Company vehicle, gas card, laptop, cell phone, and hand tools provided.
  • Up to 3 weeks of initial training (travel may be required), plus ongoing job-specific instruction.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $24.41 - $28
  • Health & Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision insurance, starting the first of the month after 60 days

of employment.

  • Paid Time Off: Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with company match.
