Job Description

SALARY

$23.40 - $29.25Under general supervision, coordinates crew activities on a daily basis to complete assigned work orders and acts as lead in the repair, replacement or adjustment of meters. Provides maintenance services on automated meter infrastructure to include the diagnosis of issues, repair, or replacement of automated meter infrastructure (AMI) infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead crew in repairing, replacing, or adjusting small to medium size meters (5/8 X ¾”" to 1" in size) and assisting the Meter Services Crew Chief in tasks related to large meters.
  • Lead crew in repairing, replacing, or adjusting small to medium size meters (1.5” and greater in size)
  • Assign daily lock-off’s.
  • Monitor workload thru EnQuesta Link to ensure work is addressed department timelines.
  • Perform meter accuracy testing, pressure/flow testing, installation, or replacement of meter vaults.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance services and aged meter replacements as scheduled.
  • Investigate service connection problems and resolves customer complaints.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform chlorine residual testing, re-size service connections and assist Meter Reading in facilitating safe access to metering sites.
  • Assist other meter service workers with more difficult tasks, as needed or directed.
  • Under direct supervision, performs emergency repairs and preventative services on all water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, water mains, water services, water taps, fire hydrants, valves, sewer mains, sewer services, manholes, and cleanouts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of Water Utilities operations; policies, procedures, ordinances.
  • Knowledge of specifications for all size meters and metering sites, metering functions and related terminology.
  • Skill in the maintenance and repair of water meters.
  • Skill in communicating policies and procedures.
  • Skill in quickly ascertaining problems with malfunctioning meters and determining quick resolutions.
  • Ability to understand and visualize combined metering scenarios.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces under extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond on a scheduled on-call basis and to work extended periods of time under imposed emergency assignments.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to PC, calculator, two-way radio, jack hammer, port-a-power winch and acetylene torch.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years minimum experience in a municipal water distribution and wastewater collection system or privately owned utility operation
  • Possession of a Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement
  • Possession of a Class III TCEQ Wastewater Collection System Operator License
  • Possession of a Class C TCEQ Water Distribution Operator License and the ability to obtain a Class B with 6 months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of Meter Programming
  • Knowledge of EnQuesta
  • Knowledge of the workings of the billing cycles
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems or other software utilized for scheduling, inventory management, asset management, and work order tracking
