About This Opportunity

This role supports the effective, safe and high‑quality operation of the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre laboratories, working closely with researchers and technical staff within the Flotation Chemistry Research Group. The Laboratory Technician contributes to a collaborative, inquisitive and purpose‑driven research environment, ensuring laboratory capability, compliance and operational excellence that underpin world‑class minerals research.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the training of junior laboratory assistants in laboratory techniques and safe work practices
  • Developing, maintaining and improving standard operating procedures (SOPs), laboratory manuals and records
  • Performing equipment maintenance, stock control and chemical inventory management
  • Supporting the preparation, processing and distribution of mineral samples, materials and equipment for research programs and clients

This is a full-time fixed-term position for up to 12 months at HEW 4.

About You

  • Completion of a Diploma in Laboratory Technology; or Completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Documented experience in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory manuals and assisting in the conduct of multiple complex research programs.
  • Documented experience in ordering and maintaining laboratory consumables, including managing ordering spreadsheets.
  • Foundational knowledge of minerals processing; an understanding of metallurgical laboratories.
  • Experience of working in minerals processing and metallurgical contexts, including at industrial sites
  • Experience using metallurgical sample processing equipment, comminution and flotation technologies.
  • Attention to detail, ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
