The Role:
Our Cape Town-based team is looking for a Merchant to support the merchandising team. The merchant is responsible for supporting the end-to-end product merchandising process across retail, e-commerce and wholesale markets. The role ensures supporting successful planning, launch, execution, and performance of seasonal assortments while acting as a key link between Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, Sales, Visual Merchandising, and product development teams. The position drives product performance through analysis, assortment optimization, pricing management, product storytelling, and cross-functional coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Intelligence & Consumer Insights
• Develop a deep understanding of local socio-cultural and creative trends, with the ability to anticipate evolving consumer behaviours and translate these into actionable regional brand responses.
• Conduct ongoing competitor and market analysis to identify emerging opportunities, product gaps, and areas for improvement.
Assortment & Product Planning
• Support seasonal assortment planning and product segmentation across retail, e-commerce, and wholesale channels, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and commercial objectives.
• Contribute to sourcing decisions by evaluating production capability opportunities to optimise cost and speed-to-market.
Product Lifecycle Management
• Manage end-to-end product lifecycle activities including pricing architecture, product launches, carry-over reviews, and the development of special capsule collections.
• Monitor and analyse product performance metrics, identifying opportunities for repeat orders, stock optimisation, and commercial growth.
Merchandising & Reporting
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive merchandising tools, reports, and product information to support Planning, Marketing, Sales, and Visual Merchandising teams.
• Support the implementation and execution of channel-specific product strategies to ensure relevance and commercial success across all touchpoints.
Brand & Campaign Execution
• Coordinate product storytelling, campaign execution, styling direction, and team training to ensure consistent and compelling brand and product presentation across all channels.
Wholesale Support
• Support wholesale market operations through assortment planning, customer presentations, in-depth product analysis, and dedicated support.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including Sales, Marketing, Planning, and Visual Merchandising — to provide product expertise, resolve enquiries, and drive informed decision-making.
