Job Description

King Ranch is seeking a Merchant to help build and manage a fast growing product assortment across apparel, leather goods, accessories, outdoor/hunt and home. This role blends analytical rigor with hands-on execution: the Merchant supports the end-to-end merchandising process, from assortment planning to purchase order and vendor management to product performance analysis and go-to-market execution. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable managing the operational detail that keeps the business running and contributing a point of view on assortment, brand fit, and customer relevance.

You'll work closely with Allocation, Planning, Product Development/Sourcing, and Vendor Partners, gaining exposure across the full merchandising lifecycle while building the analytical and brand judgment needed to take on greater scope over time.

What to Expect in the Role:

  • Partner with vendors to negotiate pricing, confirm order status, resolve discrepancies, and manage delivery timelines.
  • Track product and category performance, translating sales and inventory data into clear purchasing and reorder recommendations.
  • Partner with Allocation and Planning to monitor stock levels, replenishment needs, and unit flow by category and channel.
  • Collaborate with Product Development/Sourcing to move products from concept through production, ensuring specifications, timelines, and quality standards are met.
  • Work with Vendor Partners to strengthen relationships, evaluate new opportunities, and ensure consistent execution against brand and quality standards.
  • Maintain organized records and follow-up actions from vendor and cross-functional meetings.
  • Manage purchase order execution, including data entry, pricing, and product categorization, ensuring accuracy across internal systems.
  • Compile and prepare sales and performance reporting for leadership review, with a point of view on what the data is signaling.
  • Support the Sr. Director of Merchandising in executing category strategy, ensuring product decisions align with King Ranch's positioning as a ranch, hunt, and outdoor lifestyle brand.

What We Will Be Needing From You:

  • Deep experience in merchandising, buying, planning, or retail operations, ideally within Men’s Apparel and Outdoor/Hunt categories
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate sales and inventory data into actionable recommendations.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear, professional communication and follow-through when working with vendors and cross-functional partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and retail management systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Occasional travel for trade shows or vendor visits as needed.

About King Ranch, Inc.

In 1853, Captain Richard King purchased a creek-fed oasis in the Wild Horse Desert of South Texas, sparking generations of integrity, preservation, and innovation.

King Ranch now covers 825,000 acres—more land than the state of Rhode Island. Over the course of 150 years, King Ranch has led some of the first cattle drives, developed the Santa Gertrudis and Santa Cruz breeds of cattle, bred the finest quarter horses, and produced champion thoroughbreds—all under its iconic Running W® brand.

Today’s King Ranch has diversified into a major agribusiness with interests in cattle ranching and feedlot operations, farming (citrus, cotton, grain, sugar cane, and turfgrass), commodity marketing and processing, luxury retail goods, and recreational hunting.

King Ranch continues to foster a culture of uncompromising quality, stewardship, and authenticity—a true testament to Captain King’s commitment and integrity.
