San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is an international, nonprofit conservation organization with two front doors: the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. We integrate wildlife health and care, science, and education to develop sustainable conservation solutions.
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Merchandise Sales Clerk performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that supports San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in wildlife care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Merchandise Sales Clerk under supervision sells merchandise items while providing outstanding guest service. This position reports to Retail Management.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Sells merchandise items, Rents and maintains strollers, wheelchairs, ECVs, and other equipment. Proactive to suggestive selling. Participate in department promotions and systems for up selling.
• Operates point of sale system, handles and tenders a variety of sales transactions including cash, proactive to suggestive selling
• Maintains stock levels and cleans displays
• Provides outstanding guest service, greets guests
• Demonstrates understanding of a variety merchandise types
• Keeps prices clearly posted and updated
• Orders items as necessary and maintains an inventory as directed
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
• RBS Certificate within 30 Days required.
• Food Handler's Card within 30 Days required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of:
• Understands merchandising methods and register practices
• Background/history/operations of merchandising
• Zoo and Safari Park rules and regulations
Skills To:
• Operate a cash register accurately and efficiently
• Understand and carry out instructions
• Understand and communicate effectively with the public
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the others in a diverse environment
• Proactively maintains appropriate stock levels
• Provides outstanding guest service

IMPORTANT DETAILS
• Location: San Diego, CA
• Position Type: Hourly Part-Time Non-Exempt Union Seasonal Position - If selected, there will be fees and dues to be paid to the union
• Hourly Rate: $19.50
About The Salary Ranges
The posted salary range represents the full compensation potential for this role over time. Initial hiring offers are typically made within the lower to mid portion of the range and are based on a combination of relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and organizational considerations. Placement near the top of the range is generally reserved for individuals who demonstrate sustained performance, growth, and expanded responsibilities in the role over time.
